The first large-scale exhibition of 36,000 Soul Boxes
– representing the average number of people who die from gunfire each year in the U.S. –
is scheduled for February 15, 2019 in the lobby gallery of the Oregon State Capitol in Salem.
This date is one day after the first anniversary of the Parkland, Florida school shooting. The Oregon State Legislature will be in session, so elected officials, visitors and staff will be confronted with a pile of Soul Boxes approximately 18 feet wide by 10 feet deep by 5 feet high. They will be invited to fold their own Soul Boxes and add them to the display.
At 10AM a procession of people will carry clear bags of 500, 300 or 100 Soul Boxes, depending on their ability, into the building. They will be led by a drummer's cadence. At 4:30 the procession will carry the bags out of the building back to the truck. National news media will be invited.
